Exit Wounds

The wound is the place where the light hits you.”
…Rumi

We have all been betrayed. We have all been the betrayer. And, we often look to someone who we can trust more than ourselves. Perhaps this is because we know deep down how often we betray ourselves.

I have learned over the years that the people in my life who are most trustworthy are those people who tell me the truth even when the truth is hard. They are not always the people who keep their agreements with me. How does this make them trustworthy you ask?

Those who can be disloyal and can bear the responsibility of breaking an agreement with someone when the other option is to betray themselves…are trustworthy.

Yes, we have all had wounds. We have all been the betrayed and the betrayer. If we cannot acknowledge this, we will find ourselves harsh and unforgiving. And, especially unable to grieve for the times we have betrayed ourselves.

Now, refusing to betray ourselves does not give us a license to break agreements on a whim, or to disregard the aftermath of our actions on others.

Sometimes, it seems like we must be cruel…we must wound others, in order to be kind in the long run. And that’s the hardest part. The hard part too, the place where we hope that wisdom will find us, is in deciding where and when we must break a promise to be true to ourselves. We must weigh the cost to our soul…if we keep our agreement…the cost of that which is the essence of who we are…against the cost to others if the agreement is broken.

A wound, whether the betrayer or the betrayed…is that place where the choices we make are. But, if we can be still enough with what is…we can find that place deep in our soul where it is clear which choice is a choice for life, and we can make no other. And, that is where the light begins to seep in.

I ask you this. Can you do this? Can you make the choice that’s for life even when that choice is hard? When doing so makes you appear disloyal to others? Can you make the choice without putting yourself or the other out of your heart? This is what I want to know. For I believe, that if we are strong enough to be weak enough, we are given a wound that never heals. It is that wound…that gift that shines the light in and keeps the heart open.

Ending? This Is Only The Beginning.

The limit is not in the sky. The limit is in the mind.”

…Anonymous

This past weekend it was my privilege to attend a party. A Retirement Party. Honoring a teacher who spent all of her working career shaping and molding young minds.

And, she would do this not by filling their minds with conditioned thinking, but by challenging these young souls, to dare to dream.

She had a special talent in reaching these youthful spirits who are in the springtime of their lives. How did she get through to them in such a way that years after they left her classroom, they would return to visit her and share their accomplishments, their fears, and even for some, their failures.

Why were they so faithful to her? How did she do this?

I believe that it was because she had a talent…that she was given a gift in this lifetime…and she used it! Her passion to make a difference in the lives of these inexperienced, and, as yet, unworldy persons created a trust and a following that I have not seen EVER!!

She was creative in her teaching methods and taught with humor and a no-nonsense attitude. She tutored children from all walks of life. Rich kids. Poor kids. Genius kids. Average kids. Kids who struggled to learn.

She guided them with a tenderness for the courage of the human heart. A heart that would have to stand up again and again. A heart that would have to expand to hold all that mattered, even when doing so seemed, to their human minds, unbearable or simply impossible. She taught them simply by reminding them what they already knew…that they could do anything in life that they wanted, by having the courage to go deeper. By letting their desire grow larger than their fear. By sharing with them the value of participating fully in their own life.

Yes, Mrs. Nicholson is a very special kind of teacher. One that comes along only once in a while. She has helped to make the changes that are necessary to ensure that our children’s children can live on this planet. She has contributed by helping to create a world where the very idea of toxic waste, for example, will raise such a cry of anguish from the people as to make it unthinkable. That’s what she has given to our young people of today. An awakening. An awareness.

Kelly, my friend. I thank you. For teaching with heart. For guiding our youngsters from the heart. This world is a better place because of you.

Here’s to the new adventures you will now have. And, Happy Retirement. You deserve it!

What’s Being Concealed From Us? And What Is The Right Thing To Do?

elephant-84186_640

Cowardice asks the question – Is it safe?
Expediency asks the question – Is it politic?
Vanity asks the question – Is is popular?
But Conscience asks the question – Is it Right?
And, there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular; but one must take it BECAUSE it is right.”

…Martin Luther King

There is a story about an elephant who, at 6,000 lbs. just stood there with a small chain wrapped around his ankle. What was so strange about this spectacle was that this creature made no attempt to break free from the small stake he was tied to. Something he could have easily done. This was a very puzzling thing indeed.

As it turns out, when this beautiful, magnificent elephant was a mere 200 lbs. he was chained to that very same stake. Every day. You see, he was conditioned to believe day after day, in his young years that he could not break free from his bonds and so, as an adult he never tried.

How many of us have avoided trying something new because of a conditioned thought? Worse still, how many of us have not taken a stand because of someone’s else’s limited beliefs?

How hard is it to become free and healed when there is a chance that it might not be safe, nor politic, nor popular?

This is where we are today. We have felt powerless for so long that we are at the risk of not realizing that we are the powerful now. We are at the risk of staying enslaved forever. Is this what we truly want for ourselves and humanity?

Well, here’s something we can do now. A baby step if you will…but an intensely powerful and potent elephant baby step…So simple, yet important and influential enough to change the direction of our future.

I came across a person by the name of Ty Bollinger some time ago. He is on a mission to eradicate cancer by teaching the world all the best methods to prevent, treat, heal from, and beat the disease…

…And to expose Big Pharma who profits BIG TIME by concealing the truth and feeding the public lies that cause millions unnecessary suffering (and their very lives).

Well, a short while ago, Ty released an uplifting and mesmerizing 9-part documentary series on “The Truth About Cancer: A Global Quest.” I was both captivated and held spellbound by the amount of unbelievably credible information that was delivered in this documentary.  I couldn’t wait each day for the next part in the series. It was THAT good!

I am happy to share with you today an incredible opportunity!

Beginning April 12, they are going to re-release “The Truth About Cancer: A Global Quest” 9-part documentary series for a limited time (for free).

Do yourself a favor and click on the link or copy and paste the link to watch for free “The Truth About Cancer: A Global Quest” video series that starts April 12th.

I have nothing to gain by doing this. I just feel very strongly about the truth of this film series as I lost a sister to breast cancer.

You see, I am beginning to listen to my inner voice, to heed my intuition in matters of the heart. My conscience tells me that this is the right thing to do.

A Secret Ingredient To Life…Silence

“Perhaps the most important thing we bring to another person is the silence in us, not the sort of silence that is filled with unspoken criticism or hard withdrawal. The sort of silence that is a place of refuge, of rest, of acceptance of someone as they are.

We are all hungry for this silence. It is hard to find.

In its presence we can remember something beyond the moment, a strength on which to build a life.

Silence is a place of great power and healing.”

~ Rachel Naomi Remen

Sometimes, there is nothing more that can be added. Sometimes, in order to make a true impact, a statement must stand alone. Sometimes, silence is best.

Our Heart and The Three Very Important Keys To Our Future

“Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.”
~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Let us speak about Love for a moment shall we. After all, it is the month of Love.

Love is not a word. It is a vibration, a power…an essence. Love is the most priceless ingredient and most commanding vibration in all existence. It’s an eternal dynamic living force. Love is the unified power which holds all things together. Love simply contains everything.

Enough intensity of love can heal and transform everything. This is humanity’s true nature. To be. In Love.

So, what is keeping us from exploding into the fullness of our divine selves, from this burning desire to know perfected love?

Well, there are several factors. Not all will apply to you personally, but in general, several, if not all, of these factors apply to most of us in varying degrees.

First, a lack of vigilance and motivation, with too little faith in such promises of Love will be sure to derail us.

Second, is consistency.  A lack of consistency in our resolution to invest enough time and energy in our own spiritual development keeps us in a state of spiritual lethargy and in a spiritual negative balance.

Now, let me say here that when I speak about spirituality I am not talking about religion. No, religion is man-made and is more about the rules and laws, and dogmas. Spirituality on the other hand, is all about the heart. Our own heart. And how we develop that love for our own Self.

The third factor is that most of us, unfortunately are suffering from a kind of spiritual laziness. We are all too busy “doing” rather than “becoming.” How many of us know why we have chosen to incarnate here at this time?

We all need to slash our “to do lists” in half and start investing time in developing and integrating the love of the divine that is in each of us. We need to start really loving ourselves and make an effort and commitment on an ongoing basis.

In truth, given what is happening on this earth at this point in history, there is nothing more important for all of us at this time.

I mean what we “did” yesterday has a very short-term impact on our lives. But, what we “become” as a divine being incarnated in a human experience will remain with us for eternity.

These are not ordinary times. Really big things are happening out there.  So, we need a good guide, a good blueprint…we need to find a way within ourselves to embrace the change that is happening in a healthy way and not just survive…by hanging on by a thread. We want to thrive!

How do we do that? We let our hearts guide us. You see, our hearts are way more than a pump. It’s a hot-line to our true power. For when we share our deepest gifts, our greatest passion…whatever that may be, that is how we are supported in these times of change. If the fires in our hearts are burning high enough, this love will stand ready to see us through all potential conflict and chaos. With ease and grace.

“The key to our future lies in the wisdom of our heart.”

The Wisdom of Our Heart

“You can talk with someone for years every day, and still it won’t mean as much as what you can have when you sit in front of someone, not saying a word, yet you feel that person with your heart, you feel like you have known that person forever…Connections are made with the heart, not the tongue.”
~ C. Joybell

I was at an event this past week. I didn’t know a single person except one ~ who I met quite by accident when I walked in the door.

The host of this particular event was Native American. A beautiful soul who shared with us by way of introduction a bit of the culture he grew up in.

For instance, I learned that in their culture, they believe that everything you do in your time here on earth affects seven generations after you.  He impacted me. Somehow it made sense…I don’t know why, but it did.  And, it resonated on a level deep within my heart.

Unfortunately, the rest of the evening was a disappointment because we had been led to believe the evening was going to be a gathering of like-minded people from all walks of life when, in reality it was about an old belief paradigm ~ money.

Thinking that money will somehow make one happy really isn’t thinking at all. But sadly, that was the message we were getting.

You might not believe how many people think that just because they don’t have much of it now, its lack of it is at the root of all their problems…which is never the case.

If the host had only known that he had made more of a connection with us by sharing in a real way than the other man did by trying to convince us to invest in him, perhaps our host would have seen the power of his own heart.

A Lesson in Letting Go…and Community

“Make like a tree and let the dead leaves drop.”

…Rumi

In the dead of winter there is this temptation to  cocoon or numb our senses until the bumblebees and the butterflies and the flowers come back to us in the spring. But, each season holds its own treasures waiting to be unlocked by those who are awake.

Nature doles out its treasures, its wisdom if only we participate. We can grasp deep understandings of the cycles of our Mother Earth.

Something that I’ve personally been beginning to learn when I walk in the cold and the silence is that feeling of exhilarating peace. And joy. And, I slowly, I have begun to shed what is not needed…I drop those dead leaves.

What limiting beliefs, habits, or relationships are you perhaps holding on to that no longer serve you?

Those majestic Maples, willowy Birches, stately Oak trees, and the like have no trouble letting go of everything each year. They have an understanding on a deep level that new leaves will return when the time is right.

And, the really wonderful thing is that nature uses all those dead leaves to fertilize the ground around those very trees that dropped them. So…in the spring they become strengthened once again.

And, I just recently came across this wonderful short story written by a friend that I’d like to share with you…It’s about a Birch Forest…

It occurs to me that we are a lot like birches…

Birches often grow very close together. They actually prefer it. Birch trees don’t do nearly as well alone as they do together. Truth be told, they don’t really do a good job of putting down roots. What that means is that they don’t grow to be all that old…not in tree years anyway.

A Maple will live to a ripe old age of 150. An Elm, up to 200. The stately Oak will tower over us in acorned glory for up to 450 years if allowed.

Not so the beautiful but fragile Birch. If it makes 100 it is a VERY old tree. Without a good root system things just don’t survive. Something that big needs sustenance and stability. It needs something that will keep it secured and strong in the famine and the storms of life. Sound familiar at all?

Because Birches don’t do well with roots they rely heavily on the closeness of their fellow tree folk. What they may lack in the ability to grow roots, they make up for in their well-grounded desire for ‘community.’ You will often find them leaning into each other and growing around each other with branches intertwined. Birches need each other…and they seem to know it. Sound familiar at all?

So, wherever you find yourself during this Winter season…whatever sustenance is needed, whatever storms are raging…take time to remember. Remember your roots and revel in your community!

~ Brent Helwig

And the wind said:  “May you be as strong as the Oak, yet flexible as the Birch. May you stand tall as the Redwood, live gracefully as the Willow, and may peace and prosperity surround you all of your days.”

5 Shortcuts For Completing Change In YOU In Record Time!

autumn-196566_640

“Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise so I am changing myself.”
…Rumi

Change. That’s a scary word for most people. It’s easy for all of us to point fingers at others and tell them they need to change.

But think for a moment. Before you go ahead and change others, remember how hard it is to change yourself.

We have a world full of information, yet very little wisdom. What we really need is to start to to become wise.

The question no longer is “When will the Shift happen?” The question now is “Where is this change leading us and what does it mean for our families, for our communities, for our lives?”

We are in this transition of change. It’s about how we choose to change things going forward.

5 Shortcuts for Completing Change Within YOU in Record Time.

It all really starts with asking yourself these important questions.

Do you want peace or war?

Do you want racism and discrimination and hatred to rule or do you want collaboration and peace and love to be part of your every day living?

Do you really want to continue to turn a blind eye to poverty and desolation and depression or, do you want to lift each other up and lose the hunger and sadness forever? Replace it with joy and compassion. What kind of world do you want????? It’s all up for grabs. And, it all starts here.

Once you get clear about that, you now want to set about making the following 5 changes in your life.

1.  Stay healthy. Your body is the grounding of your life. It’s the expression of your existence. It is your Bible, your encyclopedia, your life story. Everything that happens to you is stored and reflected in your body. So, doesn’t it make sense now, more than ever before, to really become aware about what you are putting into your body.  How you are feeding that Temple of yours? Start to see your body as a sacred entity…because it is.

2. Start to become Mindful. For, in order to keep the body healthy, we must keep the mind healthy as well. The mind leads. The body follows. You can start with a simple exercise. Write down 10 things that you pretend. For instance, “I pretend to be happy when I’m not.” Or, “I pretend to not worry about money.” Or, “I pretend to like someone’s outfit when I really don’t.”

We live in such an image-driven society and “pretend” is the image…that I must pretend in order to be liked, pretend to be successful. Then, share a couple of those things that you “pretend” with a friend. Once you begin to become mindful, or aware…you begin to align yourself with your own authenticity.

3. Align Your Finances with Your Lifestyle. Stop trying to keep up with the Jone’s! Again, it’s that image thing. Simplifying this one thing in your life is sooooo freeing! For you are taking the first step in being true to yourself instead of holding yourself up to the standards of others.

4. Find Your Life’s Purpose. We are all here on this planet at this moment in time for a very important reason.  We all have a role to play in helping to heal humanity. We have all been given gifts. Find yours.

5. Provide Sustainably For Your Family. Find a way to conserve an ecological balance by avoiding the depletion of our natural resources. Take your family on a nature hike. Show them how to plant tomatoes. How to recycle, how to reduce waste. Be a way-shower for them. It not only helps to shift their view of the world, it does wonders to restore your own sense of awe about this beautiful planet.

I’ve learned much over the past 20 years. We are moving in such an impressive direction at this most critical time in our history that I am honoured and humbled to be a part of it.

I’m ready for the adventure! Are you? Leave me a comment below about what you’d like to learn more about. How can I help you?

We are the World. We are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day. So let’s start giving. We are saving our own lives. Just you and me.

Below is a blast from the past! I had goosebumps for the entire time. Goosebumps are my Truthbumps. Watch it if you can (it’s so worth it)…if not, do yourself a favour and skip to the last 10 minutes and listen to the song. It’s got heart and soul.  A really nice way to begin your week…Smile.

Wisdom – Tip #23

Each and every one of us has all the wisdom and knowledge we ever need right inside of us. It is available to us through our intuitive mind, also known as our archaic brain. This is our connection with Universal Intelligence. If we sit still and get quiet enough, we will hear those whisperings…for stillness is the fence around wisdom.
